Stillness within ourselves

There are so many information out there. We can access millions of information, giving us “the best” solutions to whatever problems. There are still new information coming up one after another.

Go to a book shop and look up the shelves of current published books. You have so many choices with similar titles, which are all so appealing.

On social media, on the other hand, there are billions of pieces of information telling us ‘what we should know,’ ‘what we should avoid,’ ‘why your life is so miserable’ and so on. They constantly pull at our attention.

I was eager to buy new books, check those videos to update myself, catching up with newest information so that I believe I may be able to have a better life.
But, I stopped to think and realize that there is no end for it. There are limitless process of chasing “new”, “most important”, “what is just revealed” information that will last forever.

It also means that there is no definite answer, and therefore our search for that answer never ends.
Reading books is fun, I admit. I still buy books and am reading them. But, I stopped my attitude to try to get answer from that book. I think that books I chose are in a way, a mirror of my mind.

A bookstore reflects the needs and dissatisfaction of people today. That’s why there are so many eye-catching titles on display. But just imagine—how many of these books will still be around in five years? Or even ten?

I was told to pick one of the most widely read books in the past 2,000 years of history. These books have not disappeared; they still remain with us today, in this era.

I am still in the process of reading those books, such as, “meditation” by Marcus Aurelius, “De Brevitate Vitae” by Seneca, “Selected works of Ralph Waldo Emerson”, “Demian” by Hermann Hesse….
Those people also should have read books of ancient wisdom. There is no urge to chase for information when I read those books, that is for sure.

Life goes by. Life is filled with problems to solve- that is for sure too. I don’t know those books give us any practical solutions, but they encourage us to look within and have a conversation to ourselves when facing life challenges, rather than searching for answers in the outside world.

They encourage us to find stillness within ourselves.
